Every family we care for is served by our own local team. Most transfers across the city take place well within an hour of your call.
You’ll speak with Nathan Boyle, our founder and lead funeral director, or a member of our local team, including Mandy Veivers, funeral director, and Praga Ve, operations manager. We are an independent, locally owned funeral home with offices in Mackay and Proserpine. About us →

What to do when someone dies in Mackay
In the first hours after a death it’s hard to think clearly. Here’s a simple path, and one phone call to us covers most of it.
- Take a breath. There’s no rush. Your loved one is safe, and nothing needs to happen this minute. Be with family.
- Call the right people. If the death was expected, call the doctor or nurse. If unexpected, call 000. In a hospital or care home, including Mackay Base Hospital and the Mater, staff will guide you.
- Call Mackay Gentle Way Funerals. Call us any time on (07) 4881 0491. We’ll arrange to bring your loved one into our care, gently and respectfully.
- We meet & plan together. At a time that suits you, at our funeral home or yours, we’ll talk through options, wishes and budget, with no pressure.
- We take care of the rest. Paperwork, permits, registering the death, the ceremony and transport: we handle every detail so you can focus on saying goodbye.
In Queensland a death must be registered within 14 days, and we lodge the registration for you. Read our full guide to what to do when someone dies, how to get a death certificate in Queensland and whether Centrelink can help with funeral costs.
Scattering ashes around Mackay and the Whitsundays
After a cremation, many Mackay families scatter ashes at the Bluewater Quay, Town Beach, along the Pioneer River or at a place that mattered. In the Whitsundays we arrange scattering at sea from Airlie Beach, Shute Harbour and Abell Point Marina. Ashes can also be kept at home, buried in a family plot or placed in a council columbarium wall, and we’ll help you understand any permits and options. See our urns.
Caring for families across Mackay
In the Whitsundays, families are cared for by our Proserpine office, Whitsunday Gentle Way Funerals, from Airlie Beach and Cannonvale to Bowen and the islands, with no travel surcharge anywhere in the Whitsunday region. Read about funerals in the Whitsundays or see all service areas.
